Every state has it's natural disasters and challenges. I like my chances in CA   over most of the other 49. Some states deal with hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and snow annually.

There are plenty of places in California where fires are not a big issue.

If one chooses to move, the whole world is a option.

Locations to which to move are often defined by proximity to family, proximity to medical services, urban vs suburban locations, price (of course), taxes,  and other personal preferences.

Well California is a lovely state w/ a diverse array of environments.  If that sort of thing happened to me twice, I would probably move...but if it was California, I would prob move to a different part of it.

2nd time around I'd wonder about the area but not the whole state. Here in IL we have areas where tornados used to be a monthly happening creating an 'alley' of sorts.

Insurance companies would be wise to buy these folks out and not allow others to build on this fire prone land.

There is a lot of people leaving CA as well as OR and Washington State in droves. High taxes and lack of safety has been quoted by many.

California has many financial problems and abysmal political leadership, yet it continues to have high real estate pricing and demand. Many would rebuild. As for insurance premiums, they may go throught the roof so to speak..

The wall should be build.

The one that makes certain the crazies in CA and CO can not escape and infect the rest of the country.
They should be directed to seek compensation from the Sierra Club and the other associated 'crazy labs."
There are consequences to crazy. The rest of the nation needs to take note and vote accordingly in November.

I doubt many have had their homes rebuilt yet.  I know people who've been waiting for two years for permits.

Does it have to be CA? Rebuilding in the same place (CA or anywhere) without taking steps to mitigate the disaster re-occurring is not a solid plan.

I would be crushed.  I won't live anywhere except in California.  I've lived in Detroit, Michigan so I know what I have and what I'm not missing.  I've been to Florida and the bugs there are horrendous.  I love Hawaii but would get Island Fever inside of a few months.  Nevada or Arizona No Thank You.  Each community has their own benefits and drawbacks.  California has Fire, Floods, Earthquakes but the good is just too good.

I would never have a house in California.  In Georgia we are much less likely to have wild fires because the state forestry has controlled burns annually to burn the under growth a little at a time to prevent forest fires.  So that much decreases the chance of wildfires.

I had a fire ... would never build a stick built with flammable exterior second time around.  It doesn't cost more to build a house that is not as vulnerable, landscape and maintain assuming the danger can return. If you build next to chapparell hillside or wooded plan to have fires, earthquake, mudslide, wind storms whatever
